Details of the preliminary agreement will be released upon ratification by the York Regional Police Association and the Police Services Board. The collective agreements between the parties expired on December 31, 2015 and this provisional agreement comes after a series of negotiations in recent months. The agreement will be submitted by the York Regional Police Association to its members for ratification. The Commission continues to fully support the Chief and his senior management team in the efficient and effective management of the Police Service and ensures that York Regional Police is accountable, operates in accordance with provincial legislation, provides the safest possible work environment and that taxpayers receive the best value for their money. The new contract includes an annual salary increase of just under two percent over the term of the contract and increases in health services such as psychological services and chiropractic care.

The York Regional Police Association has ratified a four-year agreement with the Chief of Police after months of difficult negotiations involving a mediator. Newmarket – The Regional Municipality of York Police Services Board has reached a preliminary agreement with the York Regional Police Association to renew the expiring Uniform and Civilian Work Agreements. The York Regional Police Association represents approximately 2,200 unionized sworn and civilian members. The conciliation meeting scheduled for August has been cancelled and the ratification process will take up to five weeks. Currently, 30 cents of every tax dollar paid by York Region residents goes to the police. Member benefits include extended health insurance.
